The Rizzo Blouse – Poison Grrls Test Knit

I recently had the opportunity to be a test knitter for the latest pattern from Poison Grrls, The Rizzo Blouse. Being a test knitter is something I have always wanted to try, and it was such a pleasure to work with Amy.

The pattern is GORGEOUS. I love to knit vintage patterns but they can be so crazy. Literally, scratching your head, turning things around. Constant WTF.

But the Rizzo Blouse is knitted in one piece, top down. No funny yokes, no side ways construction. Yes please.

Test Knitting

Being a test knitter for the first time was quite challenging for me. I am not generally a very precise knitter, if I make a mistake I generally just carry on and live with it. But for this test knit I knew I was going to have to find my inner perfectionist.

It was so amazing to be a part of a little community all working on the same pattern. I have never taken part in a knit along but I am sure I will in the future because I loved hearing everyone’s progress and helping each other out.

There were definitely moments when I struggled. I got my left and my right confused endlessly, which meant I ended up doing the armhole shaping at the neckline. D’oh.

But I am really pleased with how this project turned out. It’s edgy and badass and I love it. I am so thrilled that I was able to be a test knitter for such an awesome designer.

This design is so perfect for 1950s Sweater Girl vibes. My trusty What Katie Did Harlow Bra helps create the perfect vintage silhouette.

The Yarn

The yarn I used was Fulcrum Wool Company Limited Staywise Baby. It was something I had in my stash and to be perfectly honest, I’m not entirely sure where it came from.

It wasn’t an ideal yarn for this project. But I am trying to be more sustainable in my knitting, and so instead of buying something new, I was determined to shop my stash.

The Finished Item

I am so thrilled with how it turned out. Perfect for those awkward autumn days when it’s freezing in the morning and hot in the day.

I love that I can layer it with other knits, and wear it with vintage high waisted trousers. I am definitely going to check out the other patterns by Poison Grrls.
